Your host and hostess are enjoying the fluctuating fall weather during early evening hikes at a variety of beautiful locations here in the Black Hills. The recent full moon was particularly captivating! And now the wind is peeling leaves from trees at a rapid rate, feeding deer hungry to fatten up for winter.

It is always a delight to greet visitors to the beautiful Black Hills—especially to have the privilege of serving you.

- We do provide, complimentary with the standard modest rates at Chokecherry Bed and Breakfast, a small breakfast, in a basket, consisting typically of simple snack-style takeaways, often organic, in case guests need a burst of energy prior to searching out one of the eateries in Hill City or the surrounding area. The basket breakfast might include—fruit; breakfast bar or bagel or homemade bread or muffin or other pastry or oatmeal packets; milk (for oatmeal or coffee or simply to drink); cheese or boiled egg or yogurt . . . in the accommodations (quantity and variety subject to length of stay). Substantial breakfast upgrades are available as found on the Home page under Our Breakfast Menagerie.

- INTERNET: If you use WIFI we have the service.

- TV programming is Golden West’s basic cable with local channels included. Roku TV.

- Though the accommodations are serviced regularly, your host and hostess are generally available by text if anything is needed, since we have our own quarters in the residence.

- Within comfortable walking or short driving distance of your accommodation are Hill City's many shops and eating establishments, eager to satisfy your meal and dessert needs all day long.

- As a hospitality home (we live in part of the structure), we ask of our guests the courtesy that they enjoy receiving from us. Sound (noise) is typically not an issue at all, but maintaining a respectful volume assures we all remain ‘happy campers’. We hope you find our place and Hill City delightful. It is our pleasure to extend hospitality that shows you are on our minds, to help you adventure into your Black Hills vacation plans.

A suggestion—if you are three or four adults traveling together, you may check the two calendars on the Stepping Stones Dates & Rates page to see if both in-home cabins (each accommodates two) are available for your preferred dates, and possibly rent both! We have accommodated guests who did just that. The benefits include two full bathrooms, privacy between the in-home cabins, two places to spend time together, the picnic table, two grills (one electric and one charcoal), and probably you could think of other benefits as well. 2024 July 3 nts Chokecherry Hideout — Beautiful spot next to downtown Hill City, tucked away into a peaceful grassy enclave peppered with pine trees and set right alongside the middle of the Michelson Trail. Lodging is unique, quiet, cozy, very clean. Perfect get-away for July 4th weekend! K&HD, Kansas

2024 June 3 nts Eloosive Moose — The Eloosive Moose was a great place to stay, centrally located to many things to enjoy, very peaceful. The included amenities were really nice. Linda's snack basket was a thoughtful touch. Sam was full of knowledge & suggestions in the area. Would highly recommend!! S&MH

2024 June 2 nts Chokecherry Hideout — We stayed at Chokecherry Hideout during our epic adventure west. Our main goal was to find a comfortable location to stay while we rode our bikes on the Mickelson Trail. Chokecherry was more than comfortable. It was a little oasis. It is beautifully decorated and we were provided with all of the necessities at this home away from home. It is in a perfect location for those interested in riding the rail trail, exploring a small western town, and visiting national monuments. Our hosts were certainly champions for South Dakota and were very knowledgeable about the local sites. We also appreciated the goody basket filled with organic goodies to nourish us on our 47 mile bike ride. Hill City is a town with a lot to do, friendly people, and great small restaurants. We would highly recommend Chokecherry Hideout as a base for all of your adventures. T&TC

Information About Payments, Cancellation and V.I.Policies

PAYMENTS, cancellation policy and the nitty gritty v.i.policies

PAYMENTS — 50% deposit on any reservation is required (personal check or PayPal). Sturgis Rally balance must be received by June 1 at the latest. (Sturgis Rally reservation made June 1 or after will be subject to 100% payment at time reservation is made.) Balance-payment for all other reservations must be completed by 11 days prior to arrival for personal check (with the check mailed 14 or more days out); or at least 3 days prior to arrival for PayPal payment; or if the balance will be paid with cash, then paid on arrival. (The payment option will be determined at time of making the reservation.)

Information about Cancellation — Travelers who cancel their Chokecherry Bed and Breakfast stay in Hill City at least 36 days before the first day of a reservation will receive back 100% of the amount they have paid minus $20 administrative fee. — If they cancel 15 through 35 days before the first day of a reservation, they will receive back 50% of the amount they have paid minus $20 administrative fee, except 100% for nights that are subsequently rebooked minus $20 administrative fee. — If they cancel 14 or fewer days before the first day of a reservation, they will not receive a refund, except 100% for nights that are subsequently rebooked minus $20 administrative fee. — Sturgis Rally dates provide no refund unless cancelled at least a full 60 days out from the first day of a reservation, except 100% for nights that are subsequently rebooked minus $20 administrative fee; and if 61 or more days out, then they will receive back 100% of the amount they have paid minus $20 administrative fee. — Encouragement Clause - In the unfortunate event of a necessary cancellation, then In lieu of a potential refund or no refund (based on above), the reservation dates may be given to NON-smoking friends or relatives who will comply with all policies and who will pay the balance if a balance is forthcoming. In such cases the $20 administrative fee would be waived. — NO REFUND FOR EARLY DEPARTURES AND NO-SHOWS.

V.I.Policies—This is a NON-smoking (smoke-free) property, accommodating only people who do NOT smoke, NON-smokers only; and NO tobacco products, marijuana, vapors and/or illegal drugs/substances are permitted on this property; NO smoke/scent masking products; NO diffusing of anything.

In addition, it is our Policy that strong lingering scents and products are not used in the guest cabins, for the sake of guests who will be staying after you, that nothing would be left behind for them to not enjoy. Thank you for understanding and complying if you stay.

ONLY microwave cooking is allowed indoors. The grill is for you to enjoy for outdoor cooking.

NO pets/animals of any kind can be accommodated.

By reserving a stay, at all times while on the premises you agree to assume full responsibility for your selves and for your and your party’s safety and agree to act in accordance with the noted policies.

These policies are in place in consideration of the well-being of all our Guests, of the Owners, and of the Owners' Personal Guests.

Important Footnote

About our NON-smokers only V.I.Policy, it does mean that we can accommodate NON-smokers only. Even if someone who smokes does not smoke on our property, the smoke scent/residue is carried inside and permeates curtains, bedding, linens and carpet, and even walls and wood trim, and is virtually impossible to clean adequately prior to arrival of the next guest, who may be sensitive or allergic to smoke residue. Also, our own health does not tolerate exposure to residual smoke scent. If you are smokers who may feel it would be acceptable to smoke off-property and simply not smoke in the accommodations, we must ask that you do not request a stay at Chokecherry Bed and Breakfast. Thank you for understanding, and be assured it need not be taken as a personal affront, but it is of utmost importance to us. Fortunately, there are many accommodations available that welcome smokers.
